Success Story No. 2: Qnext
Qnext, cross-platform communications applications to support social networking activities, including audio, video & file sharing and instant messaging
The Challenge: The directors of this privately held, up-and-coming P2P solutions company needed to find an exit- experienced CEO, skilled in raising funds—a ready-made senior leader who could bring in investors and take the organization to the market.
Still in the mid-development stages of the product, the company faced the pressures of getting buy-in from VCs and needed someone who could raise funds, fast.
Our Solution: Sourcing a CEO is an exceptionally charged process, where insight and a pipeline to higher-performing professionals are paramount. When Qnext’s founder came to Martyn Bassett, it was clear that timing was one of the most important components to the search, as well as a thorough understanding of the space and the challenges a start-up faces.
Our search process started by targeting Canadian & US companies selling complementary products. Within 2-3 weeks, we had a first round of ‘shortlist’ candidates from Toronto, San Francisco and Los Angeles. This ‘shortlist’ produced such exceptional talent that the entire process – interview-to-hire - took a mere two months. In the end, the candidate selected was, quite literally, tracked down between projects. As a former CEO of an acquired software company, he fit the bill perfectly and went on to lead this up-and-coming organization.
