Following investment into the business, it became critical for Covers to hire their first CPO.
Following investment into the business, it became critical for our client to hire their first Chief Product Officer. This newly created role would be responsible for developing and driving the strategic vision for the next iteration of the product by transforming the user experience.
These outcomes would ensure Covers is positioned for growth with a product and experience that resonates with a next-gen, digital-first persona. One who values an experience that delivers surprise and delight along its user journey.
Founded in 1995, Covers is the leader of digital content and data that fuels sports fans and the sports betting industry. Their platform brings together expert insight, rich user experience, and a passionate community to help sports bettors bet smarter.
Covers is backed by international investors who have placed big bets on the company to ensure they gain market share and become the global go-to platform for content, insights, and experiences.
This Chief Product Officer search had a scope of role similar to that of a General Manager. The number one requirement for this search was someone who is a product visionary and has the skills to reimagine the product and the business, creating a long-term product roadmap and modern user experience.
The second most important requirement was someone whose product experience was consumer experience focused for a product brand that applied a content-rich experience.
The Hire
This candidate has 20 years of employment experience, 12 of which are in Product Management. All of this candidate’s product experience focused on consumer experience products (fintech, e-commerce, marketplaces, and travel tech).
Most recently, they led Product Management at a Product Led Growth (PLG) digital company. Hired by the Founder/CEO to develop and scale what was a nascent product into a beautiful UX led, feature, and value-rich consumer experience. During their tenure, they developed the overall business and product strategy including growth into new markets, monetization strategy, and the partnership integration strategy. They also built the product organization from 2-14 and successfully secured a round of investment to fuel the next generation of growth.
When hiring our first CPO, we were looking to branch out beyond our network. The Martyn Bassett Associates team was able to source candidates that we were wanting, but unable to get on our own. We were presented with a wide range of fantastic candidates.
What I love about working with this team is they’re there to help. I have weird requests, they jump on the phone and we figure it out. I need someone in a hurry, they hustle. I maybe need someone ages from now, they keep an eye out. I have a question about a salary, or am unsure about how to approach something – they know. We’ve used them for a few years, and we’ve had nothing but great experience working together. Wish I had found them a few years sooner.
We were impressed with both the speed and the high-calibre of candidates we had to choose from. Martyn Bassett Associates really listen to what you’re looking for and the entire process is very smooth and stress-free.
The entire Martyn Bassett team was easy to work with and we were able to quickly develop an open and transparent partnership. Leveraging their strong expertise and extensive talent network, they helped us find the technology sales leaders and management services experts we needed.
A true value-adding partner in identifying talent. The team at Martyn Bassett Associates were quick to zero-in on our requirements and rigorous in pre-qualifying candidates for consideration. They are focused and fast! Their expertise and experience added value throughout the process and resulted in an outstanding final outcome for Roadpost. This is a team that will strive to exceed expectations.
