Is it just me, or is everyone talking about product operations lately?
One contributing factor is a recent Lenny podcast with guests Melissa Perri and Dennis Tilles, where they talked about their latest book ‘Product Operations: How Successful Companies Build Better Products at Scale.’
In Lenny’s podcast interview, he pointed out that approximately half of all companies now have a Product Ops role. As Product Recruiters, we’ve also seen this shift and believe 2024 is the year when organizations will begin to see product operations as the match that will ignite scale.
What is Product Operations?
Melissa Perri describes product ops as instrumental in enabling Product Managers to make decisions. She describes it as the function intended to liberate PMs (freeing them from busy work).
She goes on to describe product ops as three pillars:
- Business Data Insights: Quantitative – all the engagement and revenue inputs
- Customer Market Insights: Qualitative – customer feedback
- Processes and Practices: Building products applying operational efficiency
